We really enjoyed this article from the Harvard Business Review, which asserts you will take 25% longer to finish a task if you divert attention away from it.

Add this to statistics from consultancy Alexander Proudfoot which paint a gloomy picture that salespeople believe they spend 21% of their time actively selling and 13% of their time prospecting, but in reality they actually spend 11% and 9% respectively.  What a colossal waste of the rest of their time on administration, problem solving and travelling.
